As we moved through into summer this Friday, the magic chess-o-meter ticked to overdrive to start a season filled with events across the city for all chess needs, from tournament spaces to grind and grow with the best to casual parties at Le Bain. This week, while Bushwick Chess may be playing casual chess there are plenty of places to sink your teeth into.
Reminder chess players! Tonight is Club Night at Bushwick Chess. Free play all night. Come through and hang out with your local beginners or test your skills against the competition.
June Club Blitz Champions
At last week’s Club Blitz Tournament, 30 players competed in a tough fight for first with an average rating of 1614 NYCR. At the end of the night, only FM Juan Pereyra remained undefeated to take home Top Player with 6.5/7 points after a stellar draw against 1866 NYCR Adi Kumar. NM Danny Vulis went home with second place with a score of 5.5/7. Simon Schmidt took home third with a score of 5/7. Atharva Washimkar snagged the u2000 prize with a performance of 5/7 and Williamsburg Chess player Clay Gulick took home the u1800 prize and the upset after a 160 point win with 4.5/7. Top Unrated went to Eugene Kim with 4/7, Victor Kenny-Mayheux won the u1600 with a score of 4/7 and the u1400 went to Scott Friedman with 3/7.
The vibes were playful nonetheless, with a mix of casual and tournament play keeping the club going through the night. Join us tonight for a more lowkey mix at Casual Club, no tournament just hangs.
