World Rapid and Blitz in NYC!!
December 26th begins the weeklong fight by the world's best. Bushwick Chess to host the year end's tournament alongside the event.
Most of the world’s top players are coming to New York City this month to celebrate Christmas, oh and to fight one of the most prestigious events in the chess circuit. The World Rapid and Blitz comes to one lucky city every December, is the strongest chess tournament in US History and the Financial District will be home to this year’s star-studded event. Yours truly has a special announcement as well: I will be covering the event for the community over the course of the five-day competition! With spectator tickets running upwards of $200 a day, let local journalism come to the rescue. Be sure to keep an eye out on the newsletter and socials over the holidays to get a glimpse into what’s going on.
UPDATE: After last week’s first-ever Town Hall, Bushwick Chess, as a community, has parted ways with its former cofounder Alex Selden, which means the former Instagram is now being used exclusively for new projects facilitated by Selden. Bushwick Chess to Return to BrookLAN for NYCR Rapid and Blitz
For the first time since September’s NYCR Chess Club Olympiad, players will gather en masse for an end of year mockup of the World Rapid and Blitz. Over the course of 6-7 hours, players will compete in TWO NYCR rated tournaments; a five-round 10|2 Rapid and a seven-round 5|2 blitz right after. Tickets are available on Eventbrite, where you can enter in either the rapid, blitz or grab both for a reduced price. Up to $1250 in prizes.
The event is aimed at players of all skill levels, but we’re absolutely looking to lure some of the international players coming to town to come show us how it’s done. Prize structure will run the same as regular Bushwick Chess tournaments, with higher payouts and Top Three players as well. Class prizes for all skill levels as well.
Bushwick Club Rapid Starts December Off Right
Players of all skill levels rejoice! Bushwick is back at it with something a little slower than our Club Blitz. Come out tonight from 7-11pm at Nook for our usual five-round 10|2 swiss. Prizes for all skill levels, and casual play encouraged if we have spare tables. Thank you so much for voicing your opinions last week, chess players. Club Chess Holiday Party Brings Hans Niemann Out
This Wednesday, one of the United States most prolific chess players, nay infamous, will be playing chess with the best dressed. Come out in looks of abundance to catch games with some of New York’s hottest chess players, this time including Grandmaster Hans Niemann. Engineers be on the lookout, as there are tickets to play Niemann but only for a select crowd. Check the post here for more info.
